In our newest feature we are announcing our Top 10 Performances of 2014 by Virginia athletes. Check these out throughout the next couple days and see who and what made our list!
Clearing 7-1 in high school is unreal, clearing it as a sophomore and on your first attempt is just unbelievable but fortunately for us we witnessed it and have photo evidence above (Photo Credit: Mary Ann Magnant). At the 6A Outdoor State Meet all questions were answered in the Bradley Jones, Steven Dunbar, and Grant Holloway High Jump battle when Grant cleared 7-1 on his first attempt at the height. The sophomore national record was just a little higher at 7-3.5 and could have been in reach if he wanted to try for it. Remember, he easily cleared 7-1 on his first attempt and then left the competition for other events which he semi-regretted later.
This year we could see some very special performances from him now knowing that he is very capable of chasing all the records in the book and jumping right over them. So far this indoor season he has already seemed much more focused and narrow on his goals which means that instead of seeing him in six events we are going to see him in fewer events each week but in more places on the national leaderboard.
