While the rest of the state was focused on the first weekend of regional championships, Chantilly was busy putting together a historic performance in the boys 4x800. The team comprised of Evan Compton, Daniel Mitchell, Ryan McGorty, and Brandon McGorty ran a very impressive time of 7:51.64 to finish fourth in the boys 4x800 at the historic Millrose games at the Armory in New York.
Not only is this time of 7:51.64 a new state leading time but it is also US #7 and #10 All Time in the state of Virginia. The time was run because Chantilly has undeniable depth in the long sprints and mid-distance races.

The team that ran this time was comprised of Evan Compton (Senior), Daniel Mitchell (Sophomore), Ryan McGorty (Senior), and Brandon McGorty (Sophomore. As you can see this team has a great combination of young talent and experience to make a great team but what you may not know are their splits which make this performance unbelievable. Compton went 2:04.07, Mitchell broke two with his 1:59.35 split, Ryan went 1:57.34, and Brandon, only a sophomore ran 1:50.89!
Though all the performances were impressive with still time to go in the season, Brandon McGorty's 1:50.89 split is historically great. To put this in perspective, the sophomore national record in the 800 is 1:51.11 and is the oldest class record in the event set back in 1994, before he was even born. Also, this 800 is the second fastest 800 run by a high schooler at the armory in the past two years only behind Kenneth Hagen's 1:50.86 split last year to anchor Blacksburg's relay team. Though we do not have the official records, this time could be the fastest split by sophomore ever!
This upcoming Thursday we will see him and Chantilly in action in the Grand-Daddy of them all, the 6A North Region meet. This region will feature T.C. Williams, Chantilly, and the Bruins of Lake Braddock amongst many, many more.
