The Group A race for the individual boys state title just got a whole lot more interesting after the Maymont Festival with Lebanon's Jakob Maidens defeating defeating champion Nathan Brame in a race within a race of the state's top cross country runners. Maidens and Brame were together with roughly over 800 meters to go in the race (see pictured above in the final hill at Maymont), but Maidens was able to distance himself by 14 seconds in a 25th place effort of 16:20. Brame, finishing in at 33rd place with a time of 16:34, pulled quite an interesting double on Saturday as he decided to jump into the VMI Invitational on the way back home from Richmond and come away with a 16:58 5K win in Lexington. Also running well at Maymont from Group A was Glenvar sophomore Megan Marsico with a season best time of 19:28 as she looks to challenge Group A #1 ranked Susanna Sullivan of George Mason, who was one second faster at Oatlands Invite in 19:27, for the state title in November.
