Griff Graves (pictured right by John Herzog) stuck around for a while. Made a race of it. Then Graves dug in, recharged, and left everyone behind him in the dust.
Using a long kick, a senior’s experience, and a drive-it-home mental approach, Graves took first place on Thursday afternoon in the 35th annual Trailblazer Invitational at Daniel Boone High School, finishing the 5k race in 15 minutes, 55.74 seconds.
"I tried to turn it on going down the hill," the Abingdon senior said. "When I got to the two-mile point, I surged again."
With the win, Graves became the first-ever three-time winner of the Trailblazer Invitational.
