State Individual Record or State Relay Record?

There are quite a few things that are difficult to attain in our sport but in our sport there are two things everyone is chasing. Olympic medals and records. Though some records are easier then others, take for instance your school's 4x100 record compared to the American record. But despite these differences records are almost always commiserate with the level of competition and thus great gauges on talent and historical placing.

All of that got us thinking about which was harder to do and or more of a goal, to set a state individual record or to set a state relay record?

Virginia has quite a few star athletes, especially these past few years, but only seen a few state records fall. Currently still running we have Grant Holloway who is the state, sophomore, junior, and national record holder at 55h (7.05) and the Western Branch girls 4x400 and 4x800 who can say they hold a state record. Everyone else is chasing history.

We have quite a few on the brink of it though with T.C. Williams' Noah and Josephus Lyles in the open sprints and 4x400 (3:13) third all-time with four juniors. Then of course we have Drew Hunter in the 3200 and a few young ladies who can do some damage on the all-time list including Kate Murphy who has run 4:46 already as a sophomore in the 1600.

When you step back and look at the lists and rankings you see it to be about of even difficulty to win one or the other. That is why we want to know what you think, is it harder to set a state individual record or a relay record that takes at least two great legs and two good legs to set? What would you rather have/be a part of?
