At the Virginia Catholic Schools State Cross Country Championship held Tuesday afternoon at Newport News Park in Newport News, the Paul VI boys and girls swept the team titles, while Thomas McConnell of Roanoke Catholic and Taryn Schrader of Bishop Sullivan repeated as Catholic Schools State Champions. McConnell led early and pulled away with a final time of 16:44 to win by 30 seconds. Bishop Ireton's Julianne Tela challenged defending champ Schrader halfway through before the Bishop Sullivan junior made her move to win a second straight title in 19:44 with Tela in second at 19:59.
