CEDAR FALLS, IA -- The Virginia men and William & Mary had rough outings at the NCAA Division I National Championships as the two lone squads representing the state finished second to last and last in the team scoring with Virginia in 30th place (803 pts) and William & Mary in 31st place (850). William & Mary ran without star runner Ed Moran, who was forced to shut his season down due to a stress fracture. Wisconsin sophomore Bobby Lockhart (John Handley HS/Winchester) and Air Force junior Brian Dumm (James Robinson HS/Fairfax) were the top finishing Virginia high school graduates in the men's 10K race with their 68th place (30:36.1) and 71st place (30:39.1) finishes respectively. Oakton HS graduate Keira Carlstrom, a sophomore at American University, earned her first ever Collegiate All-American honors with a stellar 16th place finish (20:23.5) in the women's 6K race. Virginia Tech senior Marlies Overbeeke and William & Mary senior Ali Henderson came in together to both snab All-American honors with a 29th place finish (20:36.2) for Overbeeke and 30th place finish (20:37.8) for Henderson.. Last year's MileStat.com Cross Country Runner of the Year, Cara Kiernan (The Potomac School/McLean) was one of the top finishing freshmen in the race with her 61 place finish (20:57.7).
