RULES AND SCORING: Cross Country section of National Federation Edition of Track and Field Rule Book (2006-07 Edition) Scoring (Rule 9 ‑ Section 2). Coaches will not be permitted in the chute area.
NO SPECTATORS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE, MOST OF THE COURSE IS VISIBLE FROM VIEWING AREA, BUT BINOCULARS HELPFUL. Violation of this rule will prompt disqualification of a school's participants. Coaches shall inform their athletes not to change position in the chute. Cards with numbers will be given to each team member and not individuals. Runners must remain in their same finish order until they are released and given a card at the end of the chute. Be sure to have your runner wear the proper "tear off" numbers on front of their shirts.
UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT: Bring what you need. Participants are required to wear shirts with a meet number attached to the front. VHSL will provide numbers. Please provide complete and clean uniforms. Shoes must be worn; spikes may be worn.
ENTRY: Regional Directors: Please follow the directions provided for Hy-Tek entries, also please email the VHSL to the Meet Director. See Entry Form for entry requirements attached. There is no entry fee for participants.
TEAM PACKETS: Available the day of the Meet only. Pick up at the Pavilion. Coaches will report scratches. Meet kits including numbers and special scoring cards will be issued at this time.
EXPENSES: All expenses of travel, board and lodging must be defrayed by competing schools or their contestants.
LODGING: Each coach is responsible for making his own motel reservations. A list of motels in the Warrenton-Manassas
area is enclosed.
DRESSING SPACE: There will be no dressing area provided. Porta-johns will be provided.
AWARDS: Team and individual awards will be presented. Athletes and coaches should listen for P.A. announcements as to the location and time of awards presentations.
SCHOOL AND INDIVIDUAL QUALIFYING LIMITS: The A, AA and AAA Boys and Girls shall be limit‑ed to the top four teams from a regional meet and the first 15 individuals finishers from each regional meet.
PARTICIPATION LIMITS: "If a school maintains separate teams in the same sport for girls and boys, girls may not compete on boys teams and boys may not compete on girls teams." If a school sponsors one team composed of members of both sexes, the principal shall have designated the team as a boys team on the eligibility form.
STATE CROSS COUNTRY T‑SHIRTS & SWEATSHIRTS: T‑shirts (crew neck, short & long sleeve) and sweatshirts will be available in a variety of styles.
DIRECTIONS:
From east or west - take I-66 to Exit 31 (Rt. 245-2 miles) Cars and Vans – Gate 2
From south - Take U.S. Rt. 17 or U.S. Rt. 29 North to Warrenton, continue north Buses – Gate 2
on U.S. Rt. 17, approximately 8 miles. Great Meadows will be on the right.
Coaches Information: Virginia State Cross Country Championships
Parking: READ FOR CHANGES - The Main Gate to Great Meadow is for Officials only.
Bus Parking: Buses need to use Gate 2 (this is the last gate you will get to coming from I-66 or the first gate coming from Rt. 17). Bus Parking for the State Championship may be off site (approximately 4 miles from Great Meadow). We will provide on site parking for coaches that have to drive the bus.
Do not use the main gate. – Parkers will direct Team Buses to the designated area.
Spectator Parking: Please have parents and friends use Gate 2.
Admission: $7.00
Numbers: Both boys and girls are in the same packet. Please make sure the athletes get the correct number. Also, athletes must have their numbers on at the beginning of the race.
Jewelry: The only jewelry permitted will be medical (taped to the outside of the singlet) and religious (taped under the singlet) medallions. One watch may be worn.
4. Hats: Cannot wear hats or bandannas at any time during the race. Sweat bands are permissible without a logo. Girls – no metal barrettes.
Chute: Please advise all athletes to get through the chute as quickly as possible. Workers will be advised to help get the athletes through as quickly as possible. If a runner goes down he/she will be helped up, and put back into the proper finishing position. Any athlete swinging, cursing, or verbally abusing any workers will be disqualified.
Parents: We appreciate their support, but please advise them about the rules of sportsmanship. Please advise your parents to be positive and that any verbal abuse directed toward meet officials may result in team disqualification.
Quick Score: All races will be quick scored. Please return the score sheets as quickly as possible.
Awards: Will be presented at the conclusion of each Division Championship.
Results: Will be available in the Steward Stand after Team awards (your race only). Results will also be available on
Clean – up: Please help keep Great Meadow clean. Trash bags are available at the Steward Stand. Please keep your team and bus area clean.
Tents: Must be erected behind the house. No tents are allowed on the hill.
Any vandalism or theft of meet property or Great Meadow property will result in an automatic disqualification, report filed with the VHSL, and prosecution.
