NEW KENT, VA --
A year ago, Guy Alton was just your average runner as he was a sophomore for Varina High School
with bests of a 4:45 mile and 10:24 2 mile. Fast forward a year later to today, Alton is a state
champion 1600 meter runner and is running for New Kent High School. The ride to the top had its
bumps in the road, but it was bittersweet when Alton reached the pinnacle as a state champion.
Alton didn\'t start running till his sophomore year. \"I only decided to run to get in shape for
soccer,\" says Alton. He encountered some moderate success in his sophomore year of
cross country which helped him decide to run the whole year as he went onto choose track over
soccer.
Alton started to show some great improvements during his junior year of cross country, after
training hard over the summer. Running consistently low 16\'s for much of the season, Alton
