Blacksburg senior Peter Dorrell (pictured left by Ted Plunkett) received an invitation to take part in the always elite and prestigous high school mile field at Millrose Games set to to be held on Friday, February 1st at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dorrell helped his case for earning an invite by winning the mile race at the Montgomery Invitational in Landover, Maryland on January 12th in a US #4 time of 4:16.81. Dorrell's time still stands as the fastest flat track mile time in the nation currently as the three faster times were all recorded on one of the country's fastest banked tracks found at the New York Armory.
Dorrell becomes the first Virginian to qualify for the high school boys' mile race at Millrose since Fork Union's Kippy Keino qualified two consecutive years in 2002 and 2003.
