Blacksburg senior Peter Dorrell heads to New York City on Friday to compete in the high school boys' mile in one of our country's most storied and prestigous events in the Millrose Games contested at Madison Square Garden. Dorrell is the first Virginian to be invited to the boys' mile race in five years as a 4:16 mile win at the Montgomery Invite on January 12th helped secure his spot in the field. The five-time state champion is riding high heading into this weekend after running the nation's fastest 3200 meter time of 9:06 and publicly stating where he will be running collegiately in a MileStat.com video interview last weekend at the Tech Invite. The College of William & Mary and Coach Alex Gibby are certainly excited to receive the verbal committment from one of Virginia's top distance runners, but having a Millrose mile champion would be even better.
Check out Dorrell's chances and the top competitors that he will be facing in the Friday night race at MSG in MileSplit US national editor Scott Bush's preview article. The high school boys' mile with Dorrell is expected to be shown in a taped NBC show of the Millrose Games on Saturday. Check your local listings for the airtime of the meet.
