Western Albemarle junior Steven Thompson outdid homestanding David Hodulich of Lake Braddock (12-6) as he cleared a height of 13 feet to win the event at Lake Braddock, which was 3 inches shy of the clearance that one him the AA state indoor title last winter. Western Albemarle sophomore Ashley Early who last year did not even compete in track during the indoor season as she was a cheerleader has quickly made her way up to the top of the ranks in the state in pole vaulting after her performance at Lake Braddock, where she cleared a personal best of height of 11-0, which is also a state best mark. In the process, Early defeated last year's AA state indoor champion in the pole vault, Randi Lawson of Appomattox, who finished second in the event with a personal best height as well at 10-3.
