Meet record 3200 runs by Landry and Junta propel TJ squads into leads at Liberty District

The Jefferson boys lead with 48 points with almost half their points coming in the 3,200 run as senior Brian Landry established a new district meet record of 9:38.35 for the victory; senior Evan Heflin secured a state auto qualifier in second place at 9:41.85 and senior Aaron Bernstein finished fourth in 9:48.92.
 
The Colonials also had an individual win in the pole vault as senior Joe Baerenz went 12-6 for the second week in a row.
 
W.T. Woodson is a close second with 43 points and pulled out 22 points in the shot put with the senior trio of Travis Mueller (46-11), Owen Scholl (43-5.75) and Serge Augustin (42-1.25) going 1-2-4.
 
Langley is situated in third place at 27 points with sophomore Peter Sanson winning the long jump with a seasonal best leap of 21-4 and South Lakes is fourth with 19 points after taking the next three spots after Sanson in the long jump.
 
South Lakes senior Nick Vaughn comfortably led all qualifiers in the 55 dash with a 6.72 in the semis while Vaughn's junior teammate Vince Brown led the 55 hurdle semis in 7.97 after posting a 7.85 in the trials.

The Jefferson girls also have the lead after day one with a total of 36 points. The Colonials received a meet record setting performance in the 3,200 run by freshman Lisa Junta, as she shaved eight seconds off of her previous best with a winning time of 11:17.87.
 
Marshall is second with 30 points and had sophomore Meara Goss win the shot put by almost three feet at 33-0 while McLean is a close third with 28 points after sophomore Dominique Graham won the high jump (5-0).
 
Langley is fourth with 27 points and had senior Morgan Danner as the winner in the long jump (16-1) as well as the Saxons 4x800 quartet of Carolyn Shaw, Amanda Steffy, Jill Canning and Lauren Shaw on anchor run a state auto qualifier in 9:40.52 and in the process also establish a new meet record.
 
Jefferson senior Ioana Cristei posted the top qualifying time in the 55 hurdle semis by half a second in 9.36 after running 9.26 in the trials and Woodson junior Nichole Mercier led all 55 dash qualifiers at 7.68.
