Turner Ashby senior Justin Smith bounced back quckly from a disappointing showing at Nike Indoor Nationals with a great start to his outdoor season in a duel meet on Wednesday evening with a personal best throw of 59'3". He threw the mark on his very first attempt. The Group AA state indoor shot put champion had a previous all-time best of 58'1.75" from his indoor regional meet last month. Smith set the AA State Indoor Championships meet record in the shot put and his great early start this spring bodes well for pushing towards a 60 foot throw this season as well as going after one of the toughest and oldest AA State Outdoor Meet records in the boys' shot put at 60'8" by Steve Kluge set in 1977.
