Brookville senior Ethan Nixon (pictured right by Tom Hoerner)had a solid opener to his outdoor season at the Heritage Invitational held on Lynchburg College's brand new outdoor track facility. Nixon won four events on the day including a swift 14.66 clocking in the 110 meter hurdles. The Clemson recruit also placed first in the 300 meter hurdles (40.14), high jump (6'2"), and triple jump (43'10"). His efforts helped Brookville win the nine team meet with 122 points total to easily outdistance second place Christiansburg (81 pts)
Corey Calloway (pictured right also) of Heritage rivaled Brookville's Nixon in terms of point production on the day as Calloway won the long jump (21'10.75") and 400 meter dash (51.86), while finishing second to teammate Shawn Sutton (22.86) in the 200 meter dash (23.04) and Nixon in the triple jump (42'0.75"). Calloway closed out the meet with his 4x400 meter relay team as the Heritage boys won the event in 3:38.87.
Meanwhile, the host school at Heritage saw their girls' squad take the team title as Destiny Dubose led the Lady Pioneers as an event winner in the 200 meter dash (27.55) and triple jump (34'6"), while finishing as a runner-up to Christiansburg's Brittany Bostwick (16'11.50") in the long jump and placing second in the 300 meter hurdles as well.
Liberty Christian Academy's Christina Mitchell and Fort Defiance's Whitney Fulk were also won two events each. Mitchell, one of the top performers at last May's VISAA State Outdoor Championships, ran a strong early season time in the 300 meter hurdles at 46.27 and cleared 5'1" to take the high jump competition. Fulk cruised to decisive victories in the distance races as she finished well ahead of the rest of the field in both the 1600 (5:30.83) and 3200 (11:44.41).
