Boys Virtual Meet - Girls Virtual Meet
Girls VISAA Rankings - Boys VISAA Rankings
It is going to another great one this weekend at St. Christopher's. Once again the VISAA is stacked with some of the best talent in the entire state but there are also team titles on the line and they are going to be tough to take home. Especially on the guys side where St. Christopher's and Woodberry Forest are going to slug it out until the very end. As we enter the state meet weekend these teams are virtually tied entering the meet with a slight advantage going to Woodberry Forest. Woodberry is going for their third title in a row and with Michael Davenport leading the way it is a real possibility that they pull it off.
St. Christopher's Joey Cuevas and Brandon Thomas though will be doing their best to defeat them and take home the VISAA state title at their home track. The relays are going to be the most important events for this team title. If St. Chris can sweep the relays and upset Woodberry in the 4x200 then you are basically having the meet come down to the 4x400 and St. Christopher's has the slight lead there.
On the girls' side it will be another close team competition between Saint Catherine's and Norfolk Academy both taking home tons of points. The good part of this is that it will create for a great storyline for team points but also at the same time allow teams that are not in contention to focus on running extremely impressive times in the individual events.
VISAA may not be the deepest league but this year it is filled with some of the best athletes in the entire state which is going to make a ton of great races. Four individuals stars fighting for athlete of the meet on the boys side is Alex Lomong (FUMA), Joey Cuevas (St. Chris), and the aforementioned Davenport and Thomas. All four of these guys will be going against each other individuals and also in at least one relay which should make for some great finals.
If only everyone met in the 500 to decide who really was the best at this meet! We will however have some crazy good and fast showdowns in the sprint events and then later in the distance events between Lomong and Cuevas. Just don't let Lomong sit and kick because he has a ton of foot speed.
The girls though are not going to slow down at all and actually may heat up this already great meet. Veritas' Morgan Lewis, Julia Lambert of Norfolk Academy, Ellie Vest also of Norfolk Academy, Isabelle Oliver of Trinity at Meadowview, Maddie Hunter, and quite a few other girls.
Basically all the races and field events will be both exciting and highly important for team points but where the real fun will be will be in the girls distance events. We will get to see state XC champions Lewis and Hunter battle it out and then Oliver try and take them all down too.
