The boys' 55 meter dash pitted the state's three fastest coming in Woodrow Wilson's Lashawn Merritt and Jamel Deans, along with Thomas Dale's Dennis Boone. In lane two, Deans surprises teammates Merritt (6.42) and holds off Boone (6.45) to post the nation's fastest time with his 6.38 clocking.

A swift finals assembled for the boys' 55 meter hurdles with a 7.84 cutoff out of the preliminaries for a six athlete final. Dematha Catholic's (DC) Dominc Berger takes the win in a 7.73 clocking as Hermitage's Melvin Edison finishes second at 7.83.

In the fast section of the boys' 4x200 meter relay, I.C. Norcom jumps out to the lead on the first leg. I.C. Norcom maintains their lead through leg two.

Third leg, I.C. Norcom continues to lead with North Rowan (NC) giving chase. On the final leg, the I.C. Norcom anchor tries to hold off North Rowan.

North Rowan's anchor proves to be strong at the end as he catches I.C. Norcom's final leg for the win in 1:36.0 as Norcom finishes second in the heat with a time of 1:36.5. However, the fastest time did not come from this heat as Petersburg won heat 4 of 13 with a time of 1:35.8. After finishing second in the 55 meter dash earlier in the meet, Woodrow Wilson's Lashawn Merritt is looking for a win in the 500 meter run with a good start.

Merritt with the lead through the first lap. Going into the bell lap, Merritt is looking strong and putting the competition away.

Merritt crosses the line in a winning time of 1:07.61. The first of two wins for the meet as Merritt would win the 300 meter dash (35.64) later on in the day. In a Milrose Mile qualifier event, a hot pace was set early on in the boys' mile by Fauquier senior Matt Bierlein as he lead the field through 62 seconds for the first quarter mile.

Woodside junior Derrick Robbins took over pace setting duties from Bierlein right after the half mile mark, which the leaders went through at roughly 2:08. While others fell off badly from the hot early pace, Robbins kept chugging along in the second half mile as he powered his way to a state leading winning time of 4:21.4 and possibly earning himself an invitation to run in the elite Milrose Mile at the New York Armory in February.

In a close finish for second, Westfield's James Scheiner (4:32.4) holds off Hickory's Chris Ward (4:32.6). Massaponax's Brandon Dick (4th, 4:35.1) just outleans Westfield's David Groff (5th, 4:35.5) at line to round out the top five finishers in the race.
