Welcome to the 5th annual VMI Classic High School Track and Field Invitational.

All VMI buildings are off-limits. Please instruct your athletes that they are not to enter any of the VMI buildings. If this happens and is reported, it will jeopardize the future of hosting this meet
Check-in:
Athletes must check-in no less then 30 min prior to their event: Running event athletes will check-in at the check-in building located across from the finish line. Field event athletes will check in at the event site with the head official. Failure to check-in will result in the athlete being scratched. Coaches help us with this!
The 200m, 300 hurdles, and 4x400m will be seeded immediately prior to the event. If they athlete or relay does not check in, they will be scratched. After checking in, those athletes need to report back to the check-in counter 15min before their event to find out what heat they are in and to receive their hip number.
Awards:
This year we’ll be presenting the coaches of the winning relay teams with a coach’s award. The relay awards will consist of a framed Finish Lynx photo of the race. In addition we are keeping team scores and will award the top two teams. Scoring will be (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1). Top six overall individuals and relay members receive awards. Awards are picked up at the awards/check-in building across from the finish line.

Starting Heights:
Boys High Jump: 5’4”, Girls High Jump 4’4”, Boys Pole Vault 9’0”, Girls Pole Vault 7’0:”
Field Events:
No minimum marks. Three attempts in the prelims and top nine will advance to the finals.
Discus Throwing Area:
The throwing area for the boys and girls discus is located behind the home stands on the practice football field. PLEASE DO NOT PASS NEAR THE GREEN & WHITE HOUSE ENROUTE TO THE DISCUS AREA.
Weigh-in:
All Implement Weigh In will be from 9:45 A.M. – 11:30 A.M in the large concession pod located at the North End of the stadium at the finish line. Please ensure you have some way of identifying your implements only weighed in and marked implements are allowed in the competition area. Any implements that do not make weight will be impounded until the completion of the throwing competition. TURN OVER----------------à
Field Access:
Only coaches and athletes competing in an immediate event are permitted on the infield. Please help us in keeping the infield clear of non-competing athletes.
Protest:
All VHSL rules apply: In the event of a protest: Write your protest out and present it along with $10 to the results person at the timing tent. If your protest is upheld, you will receive your $10 back. The Jury of Appeals will consist of: Tommy Maguire-Cave Spring HS, Curtis Elder-Charlottesville HS, Lance Weisand- Albemarle, Phil Tiller-Oakton. Protest must be submitted no more then 20min after the results have been posted.
Relays:
No relay cards.
Marks for LJ and TJ,
At packet pick-up are sticks to be used as markers for the LJ and TJ. Please take one for each athlete participating in the jumps. Please label them for your athletes and ask that they use these and not tape on the runway to mark their approach.
Trash: In your packet is a trash bag, Please have your athletes use it.
Tents: No tents are allowed on the lower level in the stands. Please place them higher up or on the grass so to allow spectators to be able to see the track.
Trainer: A trainer will be on staff to attend to any emergency needs.
Inclement Weather: In the event of lightning, all athletes will be asked to seek shelter under the home stands of the football stadium. We will postpone the meet 30min after the last indication of lighting.
Concessions:
Concessions will be selling food, drinks, and VMI Track and Field Invitational T-shirts.
