Ten meet records go down at Heritage Invite

LYNCHBURG, VA -- Ten new meet records were set today at the Heritage Invitational. Three of the most impressive performers of the meet participated in the Men\'s 1 mile run, the Women\'s 2 mile run and the Men\'s long jump. In the mile run Patterson Wilhelm, the sophomore sensation from EC Glass, bettered the old record by 10 seconds with a time of 4:29. Considering the track is only 133 meters long, flat, and a true mile distance, the time indicates this sophomore phenom may be challenging a sub 4:20 1600m on a true metric track over the next few weeks. Wilhelm may have set the record in the 1000 yard run, but a lady stepped onto the track in front of Wilhelm and she was plastered onto the track. After coming to a complete stop and restarting, he was overtaken by his teammate Topher Hackworth. Jennifer Beury of Hidden valley lapped the field as she destroyed the 2 mile record by 57 seconds with a time of 11:26.10. The most outstanding participant in the meet was Wesley Watson of Charlottesville who set the long jump record by over a foot with a leap of 22-00.5 and tied the triple jump record with a mark of 44-08.00. Watson would also win the high jump with a height of 6-00.
