Several high school athletes competed at the USATF National Club Championships held in Olathe, Kansas this past weekend for the Norfolk Real Deal Track Club. Norfolk Real was the only USATF club from Virginia in the event as the women's team finished 3rd among 14 teams, while the men's team placed 9th among 21 teams. The Norfolk Real Deal's club team was made up of high school, college, and post-collegiate athletes.
AAA state outdoor long jump champion Tiffany Harris (pictured left by Ted Plunkett) leaped to a new personal best mark of 19-5.75 to win the long jump at the USATF Club Nationals as well as place in the 200 meter dash (25.18 prelims, 25.25 finals). Churchland High teammate Cydney Robinson did not place in the women's 800, but did run a personal best time of 2:17.90 to finish just off a top 8 showing in 9th place.
Keith Ricks, a recent grad of King's Fork High School, led the Norfolk Real Deal sprinters with a sixth place finish in the 100 (10.76 prelims, 10.85 finals) and fifth place finish in the 200 (21.32 prelims, 21.94 finals). Meanwhile, Nike Nationals 400 champ Ja-Vell Bullard was the club's top finisher in the sprinters with a fourth place showing in the 400 meter dash with his 48.20 performance.
Cordarol Madson of Booker T. Washington had another strong race in the 400 meter hurdles to follow up his All-American finish in the event last month at Nike Outdoor Nationals as the recently graduated Madison was a runner-up in Kanasas in the hurdleswith a 53.62 clocking.
Oscar Smith's Keilah Tyson had a busy, yet productive weekend for Norfolk Real Deal with top 6 finishes in the 100 (3rd, 12.34), high jump (6th, 5-1), and long jump (6th, 17-5.25).
Both Tanay Chandler of Nansemond River and Raven Wilson of Booker T. Washington placed in the sprints with Chandler taking fifth in the 100 (12.50) and Wilson earning a fifth place finish as well in the 200 at 25.82.
