What a Difference Two Weeks Make: Deep Insight into Deep Run

Two Months of Nothing?

Ok, we are not going to sugar coat it. Deep Run entered the season ranked 10th amongst their 5A peers. They may have won the 2013 5A State title but they definitely didn't look anything like a powerhouse anymore. That's where Matthias Cannon came in.

The former Walsingham Academy junior transferred in and definitely added something to the team. All summer we heard stories from the Deep Run athletes at Blue Ridge Running Camp but we had to wait and see it for ourselves.

The result, a huge improvement.

Though they had a new top three and a varsity squad stepping up, it was still unclear how good they would be. They were neither good nor bad for those first two months of the season but there was potential.

This was most evident at the RVA Relays. They took to that course, and though it not being a 5K, showed they had some grit and a will to win. Not to mention a whole lot of speed.

They would end up winning that race against some tough competition and 5A teams started to pay attention.
