Solid individual runs by Chris Foley (pictured above) of Chantilly and Alex Watt of West Springfield in a scrimmage among three Northern Region schools at Burke Lake Park on Friday, August 15th. A 2 mile course was used instead of the regular 2.98 mile course which is used for the district and regional meets at Burke Lake. Foley, expected to be one of the top runners in the Northern Region this fall as a returning All-State 3200 meter runner, clocked in just over 10 minutes at 10:05, while Watt was a 23 second winner at 12:38. The Chantilly boys were able to hold off West Springfield with a three point buffer to win the tri meet with 32 points, while the West Springfield girls were the superior squad of the scrimmage with six of the top nine individual finishers in the girls' race.

The scrimmage between Gloucester and Clover Hill on Monday, August 18th saw a great duel in the girls' race between Clover Hill sophomore Abby Badura and Gloucester senior Hannah Varnell (both pictured above). Held at the Gloucester's home course of Beaverdam Park, Badura pulled away at the end for a six second victory with a 19:34 5K performance. Clover Hill swept the dual scrimmage as the boys in particular ran well with four of the top five finishers and nearly all under 18 minutes.
