VA XC District Championships Coverage

Highlights from district week in Virginia:
Jamestown's #2 runner runs 14:48 at Eastern State Hospital!

The top runners for the Jamestown boys posted jaw dropping times at Eastern State Hospital (home of William & Mary Invite) for the Bay Rivers District Championships. VA #1 ranked Andrew Colley had ran one of the fastest times ever on the course earlier in the season at the William & Mary Invite, but improved upon that time to finish 6 seconds off the 3.05 mile course record with 14:36 performance. More impressive was to find his teammate Colin Mearns finishing only 12 seconds behind him at 14:48. Mearns arguably could be one of the best #2 runners on any high school team in the country. A very small and elite group of runners have ever broken 15 minutes at Eastern State, so for Jamestown to have two runners dipping well under this time speaks loud volumes of how talented the #1 ranked team in Virginia is. Rounding out their top five for a 74 point margin of victory in their district title were John Holt (3rd, 15:22), Josh Schlickenmeyer (6th, 16:06), and Graham Schlickenmeyer (7th, 16:11).

Marsico runs third fastest 3 mile time in US!
Glenvar junior Megan Marsico does not appear to be slowing down any time soon. The top ranked runner in the Commonwealth who has gained national attention with a season full of stellar performances put down her best race yet at the Three Rivers District Championships held at the Giles County High School's 3 mile course. Marsico ran the third fastest 3 mile time recorded by a high school girl in the nation this fall with a course record shattering time of 16:41. Her time was 17 seconds faster than a 16:58 course record win earlier in the season at the Giles County Invite. In the same meet on the same course last year, Marsico won in 18:27 and then went onto win the VHSL Group A state title at Great Meadow in a time of 18:21. Lets not only think about if she can best Catherine White's 17:48 performance on the state course at Great Meadow in 2005, but could Marisco seriously challenge to run a sub 17 minute performance in November at the state championships?
