The Spotswood boys entered this season with a collective goal to defend their Massanutten District and Region III champion titles, and improve upon their 7th place finish at the 2007 state meet. With 9 of their top 10 runners returning from last year, a strong team dynamic pushes the team. They recently won the Rocktoberfest Invitational and have moved to the 6th spot on the AA rankings list.

Coming off a solid outdoor track season, with the boys’ 4x800 earning All-State honors, the team was confident going into summer training. “We are fortunate to have some great places to train, and when we go to each location we have specific workouts to do,” Rinker said. “As a team, I divide them into groups based on the workout as well as where they are developmentally.” The team averages 30-50 miles a week, but mileage is individually based, a concept that has enabled the boys to push each other in practice.
