Central Region Meet Photo Gallery - Awards

Year in and year out Maggie Walker head coach Jim Holdren produces some of the top cross country and track teams in the Richmond area. This year, Holdren was honored as boys' coach of the year for the Central Region as his Green Dragons were team champions at the Central Region Meet. Earning the the title of MVP in the field events with his win in the triple jump (45-0.50) and runner-up finish in the long jump (22-5.75), Prince George junior Allen Brown gladly accepts his award.
Helping lead Maggie Walker to the regional team crown was distance ace Daniel Howard as the Maggie Walker senior won the 1600 meter run in an amazing time of 4:25.15 and would later double back to finish third overall in the 1000 meter run (2:38.96). Howard also anchored the Maggie Walker 4x800 meter relay on Friday night and nearly got the win for the Green Dragons with his efforts as they finished second to Midlothian at 8:17.91. Douglas Freeman took runner-up team honors with a combined team score of 54 points, only 3 points away from a share of the regional crown.
With 57 points total, the Maggie Walker boys secured the win as regional champions. Hermitage head coach Walter Spain is honored as girls' coach of the year after his Lady Panthers won the regional crown.
The field event MVP award went to Hermitage's star sophomore Queen Harrison as she won two regional crowns in the field events with victories in the long jump (17-9.50) and triple jump (35-11.50). Harrison would also go onto win the 300 meter dash as well in a time of 42.74. There was no question that Midlothian junior Amanda Patterson was deserving of the runner MVP award after the times she put up in her 1600 and 3200 meter regional wins. Patterson made the Ashe Center look like a speedway in winning the 1600 in 5:03.15 and the 3200 in 11:02.13. Both times broke the previous meet records set by Kim Goode of Clover Hill in 1992.
Maggie Walker finished second place overall with 53 points in the team scoring. The Hermitage girls had a dominating team performance with 87 points total as they were led by Harrison's three individual wins.
