Karimah Shepherd's US #1 triple jump mark (40'6.50") on Friday jumpstarted the Southeastern Invitational, while the Menchville girls closed out the meet on Saturday with a US #2 performance (3:58.88) in the 4x400 meter relay. Three other US top 5 performances were produced over the two day event at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
Grassfield senior Karimah Shepherd uncorked not only improved her previous US #1 mark to 40'6.50", but also now ranks her as the #7 performer all-time in Virginia high school indoor history. She was not the only athlete jumping well in the triple jump as runner-up Chaneka Perry of Menchville went a US #2 39'4". Both Shepherd and Perry were AAU All-Americans this past summer with Perry as the 3rd place finisher and Shepherd as the 4th place finisher at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
