Mixed Gender 4x4 Relay Added To 2020 Olympics!

Announced just today (June 9th) was some big news from the IOC and IAAF. The IOC announced and the IAAF will soon vote to make it official that the mixed gender 4x400 will now be an official Olympic event starting with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

This event is quickly gaining popularity after its success this year in the IAAF World Relay Championships. Unlike the relays you usually run at those early April and late March meets, this event will likely not restrict which legs the men and women run.

There will be a lot of strategy going into this race and perhaps a better chance for some nations to shine when they have a couple superstar athletes instead of a deep pool of relay runner such as the United States for the 4x4.

If you were wondering the same thing we were, we'd say it would be an epic showdown if we could get this event happening at outdoor nationals or Brooks PR in the near future and see a Nansemond River vs Western Branch showdown.
