Senior Salute to Arvin Shao of Christ Chapel Academy
Questions 1: What was your greatest moment while competing in high school?
I would say my greatest moment while competing in high school was my last meet this year. I was put in three events I haven't done in a year and I had no faith going in, but my coach had faith and I ended up PRing in all of them. Also, that same meet I ran the 4x400 for the first time and it fulfilled one HS wish which was to qualify for states.
Question 2: What is your biggest regret (related to T&F in high school) or what would you have done differently and why?
My biggest regret is not starting to run earlier in HS and even MS. I say that because ever since i took up track in 10th and XC in 11th grade I fell in love and found a place I belong. Also, maybe I could of gotten better offers from schools where my parents and family approve of.
Question 3: What will you miss the most about HS T&F/XC?
I will definitely miss my track coach and my co-captain because they both had faith in me when my parents and I didn't. I will also miss the family environment we had as a team in track by pushing each other and cheering for one another.
Question 4: What is some advice from incoming frosh and rising seniors on your high school team that you would like to share with them?
To the incoming freshman- listen to the Coach because she means business and is only trying help you improve. To the seniors- try to take more of a leadership role and try to lighten the load for the coaches.
Question 5: What was the hardest workout you did your entire high school career? Did you like it or did you dread it?
The hardest workout I would say is hill day followed by core. I would say I liked it but also dreaded because it seemed like time went by so slow.
Question 6: How did you make track/XC a very individual sport into more of a team sport?
So being the co-captain this year and captain last year I always tried to put the team before myself. It was truly like a family to me because we went through everything together as a team. Cheering for one another and picking each other up when we are down. I guess some of my teammates/coaches would say a example of that would be when I didn't qualified for states I came to practice even though I didn't have to. To me its not over until its over for everyone and I even went to states to cheer them on even though I was the only one there that I wasn't running.
Question 7: Finally, what are your college plans? Will you be competing in college, where? What do you plan on studying? What do you have as career plans?
I have signed my LOI to Belmont Abbey College in NC. Hopefully everything goes well with my family I will run there all four years. I will possibly be majoring in business and as of right now no career plans.
