Running in the USA singlet, Midlothian opening leg Kurt Witt runs in the midst of the pack early in his leg. Kurt Witt runs a personal best split of 4:36 as he hands off to second leg Billy Berlin with Midlothian running second behind Council Rock of Pennsylvania.
Berlin, coming off a 2:31 1000 meter performance at the AAA State Meet, bids his time as he runs off the Council Rock second leg. Berlin hands off to third leg Pat Harding after running a 4:30 leg and putting Midlothian in the lead and for good.
Harding running ahead with the lead as the rest of field chases after Midlothian. Harding runs a personal best time of 4:37 to keep Midlothian in the lead. Anchor leg Ryan Witt takes the baton with the Council Rock anchor leg receiving the baton only a second behind.
Witt determined to hold off Council Rock and others as the final leg for Midlothian. With a 4:26 anchor leg split, Witt crosses the line in a time of 18:11.26 as Midlothian repeats as national champs.
