CARY, Nc. - In his final high school XC race, Edison's Yared Mekonnen decided he wanted one more race. He put together a near perfect race performance to cross the line in 15:13 for 8th place. That finish was first amongst non-scorers and the 5th and final individual qualifying spot. Yep, that's right, Yared is headed to NXN in Portland, Oregon!
"When they said I was the fifth one to make it I was just overcome with emotion, this is a huge thing for me. I did not think this was going to happen." - Yared noted after his finish and awards.
This race wasn't only good place wise but time wise as well for Yared. His 15:13 finish improved his previous pr by over 24 seconds and was even fast enough to eclipse his 3 Mile pr of 15:16!
Now with a clean slate and new found source of confidence, Yared can lay it all on the line in hopes of an All-American finish.
