It is easy for Daniel Garrett's name to get lost with the long list of great vaulters produced by Great Bridge High School in particular with two of the all-time greats in Lawrence Johnson and Michael Morrison have come from the school in Chesapeake, Virginia. However, Garrett certainly kicked off this decade as the leader of the Great Bridge vaulters and likely had a great influence and impact on the eventual state outdoor record holder and USATF Junior National champion Morrison.
Garrett went over 15 feet on numerous occassions in his senior year of 2002 including a 15'9" best (ranked #5 performer in decade) at the AAA State Outdoor Meet. Garrett came up empty handed in both indoor and outdoor state championships as a runner-up to Centreville's David Sullivan, but the two had a great rivalry pushing each other for some exciting competitions in the vault. At the 2002 Adidas Outdoor Championships in Raleigh, Garrett was an All-American with a fifth place finish in the pole vault.
