The 2007 VHSL Group AA State Championships was a great meet for the discus throw as both state meet records went down with Natalie Baird of Park View setting the state meet and Virginia state record for the girls discus, while Liberty's Erik Kuster (pictured above by Joe Showker) let it rip with a huge personal best of 179'0" to break a 20 year old meet record set back in 1977 by Steve Kluge of Robert E. Lee (Staunton). Kuster not only peaked in the right time for the discus, but also launched a personal best mark of 57'7.75" to win the shot put state title as well in the same meet.

Kuster went undefeated in the discus throw as a senior and was virtually unbeatable in the shot put picking up victories at the Dogwood Track Classic, VMI Classic, and Southern Track Classic as he consistently threw well over 50 feet in the shot and 160 feet in the discus.
