Michael Zajac had a remarkable versatility in the throws which none in this past decade can match and the willingness to learn two untraditional events in Virginia in the weight and hammer throw to become a Nike All-American in three throwing events. Zajac swept the throws at the 2006 VHSL Group AAA State Outdoor Championships winning both the shot put and discus. He was an All-American at Nike Indoor Nationals in the weight throw and followed that performance up with two All-American finishes in the discus and hammer throw.
The event which was considered his specialty during most of the track season was the discus where the E.C. Glass High School star had a best mark of 185'2". Zajac really came into his own in the shot put though as a senior as well winning the indoor and outdoor state titles in the event then having a string of 57 plus foot throws before his 58'4.50" high school best at the state outdoor meet.
