ORLANDO, FL -- John Handley senior Bobby Lockhart was one of the race favorites for today's Foot Locker
National race and his only goal all year was to win this race. Lockhart was with the front
pack that went through the mile at 4:40, then took over the lead from there as other runners
gave chase as he led the field through a 9:32 2 mile. Michigan's Tim Moore took over the lead
with 600 to go and the two runners exchanged leads from then on out. It led to one of the
most exciting finishes in years at Foot Locker. However, the valiant
Lockhart suffered a heartbreaker as Moore edged him to line for the national title. Moore
crossed the line in a time of 14:50 and Lockhart finished in at 14:51.
Fleet Hower ran a superb race as he earned All-American honors. The Marion senior finished 11th in a the race with a time of 15:09. After finishing 6th at the Foot Locker South Regional Meet,
Hower finished 3rd for the South region behind Lockhart and North Carolina's Milos Mitric.
Ocean Lakes senior Matt Keally rounds out the Virginia trio by finishing 17th in a time of 15:20.
Including individuals, Virginia is the top state out of the 4 states who brought at least 3
individuals to the meet. However, not including individuals, Virginia finished 2nd to Michigan.
Nonetheless, it says a lot of the high school distance running of state of Virginia to have three individuals
in the top 17 in the entire nation.
