WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The Loucks Games held in New York saw a southern invasion for this year's meet with a talented contigency from Virginia coming to compete.

Westfield runs 10:14.52 DMR at Loucks Games

With a scorching 3:02 1200 meter opening leg from senior Westfield Groff, the Westfield DMR team of Groff, Chris Black, Chris Courson, and James Scheiner went onto win the DMR at the Loucks Games in New York with a final time of 10:14.52. Groff hinted at a possible sub 10:10 later on in the season. At AOC maybe???

Merritt's rebuttal to the X-Man

In 100 and 200 meter prelims at the Loucks Games on Friday, Woodrow Wilson senior Lashawn Merritt posted the top times in both events with times of 10.43w and 21.62w. In Saturday's finals, it will be interesting to see if Merritt can try to match the performance put up by Xavier Carter at the Florida state meet this weekend as Carter seized the US#1 ranking in the 400 from Merritt with a 45.44 clocking. at Carter's state meet. Merritt posted season bests in the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the Landstown Invitational with 10.38 and 20.69 clockings. Carter went 10.56 and 20.72 this weekend in a triple win at his state meet. In Saturday's finals, Merritt would notch double wins in the 100 meter dash (10.74, -0.9) and 200 meter dash 21.02 with the 200 a meet record into a 3.3 headwind. Thomas Dale's Dennis Boone also competed in the 100 and 200 meter dashes as he finished 3rd (10.94, -0.9) and 2nd (21.93, -3.3) respectively in both events as well as garnering a third place in the long jump (21-6.25).

Bowman wins 1600

Fauquier junior Sarah Bowman, mile winner at the Penn Relays, won yet another race at another nationally recognized me at the Louck Games. Bowman led from start to finish in the 1600 meter run and came away with a final time of 4:52.40.

Great Bridge dominates pole vault

Great Bridge sent three of their pole vaulters to White Plains and they nearly came away with all top three places with Daniel Brennan taking the win at a 14-6 clearance and teammates Michael Morrison (14-0) and Dominic Hunter (14-0) finishing second and fourth overall.

HARTFORD, CT -- Looking for a meet with great competition to replace the absence of the Southern Track Classic, more than a handful of distance stars from Virginia went as far north as Connecticut to compete in the Hartford Public Invitational.

    LANDRY RUNS 8:54.07 TWO MILE!!!

    The performance of the meet by a Virginian came from Thomas Jefferson senior Christo Landry as he scorched a 8:54.07 full two mile to place third overall in the race. The only Virginian to have ran a faster two mile in recent years was Alan Webb four years ago. Two other fast times were posted in the race by Virginians including Landry's teammate Chris Mocko at 9:15.83 and Green Run senior Steven Walters at 9:19.30.

    Sherbak wins mile, doubles back with strong duece

    Kellam's Natalie Sherbak posted an impressive double with her win in the mile race (4:56.09) and fifth place finish in the two mile run (11:01.45). Fellow Kellam distance standout Tara Connor finished ninth in the two mile (11:24.12), while Thomas Jefferson's Jen Dolson took 12th place (11:27.96). Two runners from Virginia dipped under 2:20 in the girls' 800 meter run with Karen Wilson of Herndon (2nd, 2:16.88) and Audrey Hand of Kellam (4th, 2:18.99).
