Tyson, Mitchell, Brown, and Norfolk Real Deal 4x4 win titles on final day at AAU JOs

The final day of competition at the AAU Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships saw several Virginians leave Des Moines, Iowa with AAU national titles. Keilah Tyson of Western Branch and Walter Mitchell of Salem scored national championships in the sprints with Tyson as the young women's 100 meter dash champion at 11.99, while Mitchell crossed the line in first in the intermediate boys 200 meter dash finals at 21.94.

 

Willam Brown of Hampton, VA notched his second AAU age group title of the meet in the distance races of the intermediate boys division as he followed up his 1500 victory earlier in the week with a win in the 3K with a time of 9:05.46.

 

The Norfolk Real Deal Track Club young women's 4x400 including Booker T. Washington's Champagne Bell, Hickory's Breanna Dennis, Granby's Cassandra Jones, and Churchland's Cydney Robinson turned in a time of 3:42.18 to win a relay national title together.

 

Others earning All-American honors on Sunday were Menchville's Tania Minkins in the young women's 200 (3rd, 24.74), Grassfield's Aaron Harrison in the young men's 3K (4th, 9:04.39), and the Norfolk Real Deal Track Club's intermediate boys 4x400 (3rd, 3:20.80).
