Defending outdoor state champion Jacob Westerfield is back from injury and qualified for the state meet. That is thanks to his season opener 13-9 at the Southern Track Classic. It is definitely a long ways from his 15-7 best but a great move in the right direction.
Westerfield is a part of the Battlefield Pole Vault Powerhouse and it looks like he will be gearing towards a comeback at the state meet to defend his title.
Jacob was competing very well indoors, had already cleared 15-6, before suffering a dislocated hip at the Reno PV Summit in January. That injury was caused by him landing on the box and pushed him out of competition until just last week.
One thing his coaches had to say was that he is tough and determined. He may not be at 100% yet but with his abilities and drive it is possible that he could once again be a state champion.
