It isn't every year where an athlete wins their first state XC title and two weeks later makes the Foot Locker National team, but it has been that type of year for Kelsey Harrington. Saturday morning she took home a 4th place finish running 17:05 to make the team, she was VA's second finisher.
Kelsey ran very well and most athletes would have been elated with that time and finish but Kelsey is hungrier than ever. It honestly was her first race all season with anyone close to her so naturally a learning experience as well.
She opened the race in the lead at 5:10 at the Mile but quickly fell back in the middle mile of the race. She was tough though and fought for every spot and eventually put herself in a great position around the lake. She drove home and finished 4th amongst some great competition.
This was probably her fastest course all season so she will be looking forward to the hills at Foot Locker nationals where her hill running experience could carry her onto a top finish.
