Ruiz quietly clocks fastest 3200m in the state this year

NEW YORK, NY -- Jamestown senior Bryce Ruiz has been rather quiet this past indoor season. Ruiz and two other fellow all-state teammates at Jamestown, Jonna Reinhardt and Tony Davila decided that during cross country they would skip the indoor season to train instead and prepare for the outdoor track season. Well whatever type of training they are doing must be working.

Ruiz traveled up to the New York Armory unnoticed to compete in Hispanic Games to run the 3200 meter race. Ruiz showed no signs of race rust as he went onto take second in the race, which consisted of a very competitive field where 10 runners went 9:45 or better. He also clocked the fastest 3200 meter time in the state so far this season with his time of 9:26.86. Ruiz also finished 8th in the 1600 later on in the day running a respectable time of 4:30.

With Jamestown possessing the defending Group AA indoor triple jump champion and top Group AA returnee in the 55 hurdles with Devin Canaday, if Ruiz and company decide to run for their squad during the indoor season, Jamestown could very well have a strong shot at winning another state title coming off their recent cross country championship.

To add onto Ruiz's great day, the Hispanic Games recognized him as a leader of the future. Student Athletes who are leaders in the Hispanic community are nominated by teams and coaches in the community for their leadership skills and accomplishments. Ruiz (pictured with father, Brent) was bestowed with the award, which was only given to 2 other student athletes at the meet. Ruiz having a 4.0 + grade point average, a member of various school clubs, and not to mention an all-state honor exemplifies such an award.
