NEW MARKET, VA -- Both the boys and girls course records were broken at the 3rd annual Stonewall Jackson Invitational held at the challening New Market Battlefield 5K course. Clarke County senior Dustin Sweeney took the boys record with his time of 16:48 and Strasburg\'s Leslie Grant took the girls with her time of 20:37. Both runners got out to big leads by the mile mark and then increased those leads through the remainder of the race.
Sweeney broke the course record of 17:08 which was set by Matt Schu of Luray in 1998. His state defending champion team, however, did not have such a great day. They finished fifth of a field that consisted of mainly teams in it\'s own region. A pleasant surprise was the Page County boys who won with a total of 66 points. They were able to place 4 runners in the top 15 with their number 5 runner finishing 20th.
Grant\'s victory proved to carry over for success for her Strasburg squad as they won the girls\' team title. With teammate Sara Hines taking second (21:17), the Lady Rams were able to score 57 points.
