BREAKING: Great Meadow Course Closed To Warmups Due To Rain

THE PLAINS, Va. - The Great Meadow State Meet Course is officially closed to warmups on Thursday and Friday to keep the integrity of the course at the highest level ahead of the VHSL Class 4/5/6 State meet.

Athletes and teams are able to get on the property and run on the gravel roads. Athletes and teams are not able to get on any part of the course that has grass.

Running the gravel roads will give you a great view of the course from a short distance. Athletes can also view the course by checking out the drone footage of it from 2018.

Here is the VHSL advisory:

Due to the pending weather forecasts showing rain Thursday evening into Friday morning, the state cross-country course at Great Meadow will be CLOSED for practices (including running and walking) on Friday, November 12, 2021. The health and safety of all participants involved are the reasons for the closure. In addition, meet management is working to prepare and preserve course conditions for the competition on Saturday.

Green Hill Park hosting Classes 1 through 3 will be open as scheduled from noon to 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 12. If weather conditions change for the Salem and Roanoke areas, we will send an Advisory to member schools Friday morning.
