The 2013 AAA Indoor State Meet Was Insane

Michael Cherry's national 300m record

The 2013 indoor state meet could go down in history as one of, if not the, most insanely talented meets ever in US history. The meet saw state records, national records, and had multiple world record holders, gold medalists, and NCAA champions in its ranks.

The top line story from the meet was Michael Cherry (Oscar Smith). In this meet, well really in just the span of two hours, he ran 1:02 in the 500, broke the national record in the 300 (33.06) on a flat track and anchored the Tigers with a 46 in the 4x4 for the win.

What many people don't realize though was that Olympian Byron Robinson (Western Branch) was second in that race and Mustaqeem Williams (Forest Park) was third and would be a multiple time NCAA All-American.

In the 4x200 you had arguably more talent with both Noah Lyles and Josephus Lyles running for T.C. Williams (now Alexandria HS) and also had a freshman at Grassfield... Grant Holloway

Also in the sprints you had Quincy Watts who would set multiple state meet records as a senior and Ricky Morgan who was an NCAA champion.

In the field event competition the boys high jump featured three seven foot jumpers and in the distance races you had Sean McGorty (Chantilly) who as of last year was one of the best distance runners in the world and spent some time as world #1.

In the girls competition things were equally insane. You had superstar Felecia Majors (South County) in nearly every event and then even had one relay team (Lake Braddock) with three Foot Locker Finalists!

Individually in the distance races there was Caroline Alcorta (West Springfield) who still is one of the greatest distance runners ever to run in VA.

Team wise you had a very fast quartet from Woodbridge who would break the state record in the 4x4 and finally you had a stacked race in the 55m dash final with Carolyn Brown, Milan Parks, Brandee' Johnson, and Kiana Hairston. Those girls would win over 30 state titles and some of the would even sweep the sprint titles outdoors.
