Virginia had made it three years without a state record being broken, that streak is officially broken. On Wednesday Brianna Selby (Indian River) clocked an 11.29 in the 100m dash to eclipse Keilah Tyson's 11.39 set back in 2011. This is just the second time this record has changed hands since 1979.
Selby ran this at the Southeastern District Meet but without a wind gauge. Per rules, this record and time are considered wind-aided due to the fact there was no wind gauge in use. We do include wind-aided times on the all-time list and denote them with a "W".
Selby will be ready to strike again this weekend at regionals where the heat and weather should cooperate with her and make for the perfect opportunity to run even faster.
Her coach, Andre Cason, is definitely one to prepare her to run fast as he himself held the state record (10.38) in the 100m dash from 1986 until 1990 and still ranks VA #6 all-time today.
