There were quite a few state champions crowned this past week but only one of them was a freshman, Kiera Lowman of Alleghany. She was the state champion for the Class 2 race with a winning time of 18:59 down at Green Hill Park.
The Class 2 state championship race was actually quite interesting as it featured just 21 seniors in the entire race and even had only five seniors in the entire top 20. It was honestly a race dominated by underclassmen, something you do not see at states often.
