Spectators encourage their favorite runners and teammates. Total domination! The J. R. Tucker team made a huge statement today.
Early leaders in the Boys A race. Setting a hot pace, J.R. Tucker junior Michael Chapa and Forest Park senior Bryce Iverson go through the first mile side-by-side in a time of 4:41. Here they start the climb of the hill at about the 2000 meter mark.
Only a few seconds behind the leaders are the next small pack with Chapa's teammate Mason McElroy in the lead followed on the right by Brentsville junior Nick Gehlson then another J.R Tucker runner Thuom Mathiang, Douglas Freeman senior Richard Andrews, E.C. Glass junior Pat Wilhelm, and Colonial Forge senior Tony Nowotarski. Coming down the hill towards the 2 mile marker, Chapa has pulled out to about a 10 second lead.
Bryce Iverson keeps Chapa in sight. Next are McElroy, Andrews, and Mathiang.
Coming into the finish is Michael Chapa with a time of 15:44. Bryce Iverson is second with a time of 16:05.
Closing fast in 3rd is Richard Andrews as he passes through the finish line in 16:08. Mason McElroy heads to the finish with a time of 16:17.
Thuom Mathing is the 3rd Tucker runner to cross the line under 16:35. With a time of 16:44, 6th place finisher Will Jacobs, a James Monroe junior, is the top A/AA runner finisher today.
The boys B race is off...and they charge to the first turn. Leaders at the 2000 meter hill.
Battlefield junior Jason Driscoll heads for a first place finish in the B Race with a time of 17:23. Annandale's Ismael Ahmed takes 2nd in the B race with a time of 17:26.
The girls A race is off with Brentsville's Becky Stewart on the left and Forest Park's Stephanie Slekis on the right jumping to a quick lead. It's Stewart and Slekis in the lead still running side by side as they start the 2000m hill climb.
Approaching the two mile mark and Stewart and Slekis are still paired up. Running fourth as they approach the 2 mile mark is Forest Park's Erin Kaskey with Colonial Forge freshman Kaylan Comer in hot pursuit.
Forge soph Molly Hawkins is followed closely by Freeman's Meagan Montgomery. Brooke Point sophomore Brittany Copeland leads a pack of harriers to the two mile point.
Stephanie Slekis is the girls champion with a time of 19:16. Close behind in 2nd is Brentsville sophomore Becky Stewart with a time of 19:18.
Representing James River is Christy Ward who finishes 3rd in a time of 19:23. Colonial Forge freshman Kaylan Comer finishes 4th in a time of 20:09 as she leads her team to a 2nd place finish.
Emily Kaskin of Forest Park is 5th with a time of 20:14. Next in succession are Osborn Park senior Emily Arena (20:24), Colonial Forge sophomore Molly Hawkins (20:29) and Meagan Montgomery (20:35), the first of the Douglas Freeman girls who won the overall team championship today.
Brooke Point sophomore harrier Brittany Copeland leads her team to a 3rd place finish with a time of 21:02. The Stone Bridge crew jumps out to the ealry lead in the B girls race.
Midlo's Mary Miller checks in first at the 2000m hill climb. Miller maintains her lead the rest of the way with a first place finish of 21:13.
Stone Bridge's Megan Melancarne finishes 2nd with a time of 21:29.
