Setting a hot pace, J.R. Tucker junior Michael Chapa and Forest Park senior Bryce Iverson go through the first mile side-by-side in a time of 4:41. Here they start the climb of the hill at about the 2000 meter mark.

Only a few seconds behind the leaders are the next small pack with Chapa's teammate Mason McElroy in the lead followed on the right by Brentsville junior Nick Gehlson then another J.R Tucker runner Thuom Mathiang, Douglas Freeman senior Richard Andrews, E.C. Glass junior Pat Wilhelm, and Colonial Forge senior Tony Nowotarski. |
Coming down the hill towards the 2 mile marker, Chapa has pulled out to about a 10 second lead.
