Rodney Lora and Morgan Graham Are Making Throws History

Two of VA's best athletes are on the verge of making history. Woodberry Forest's Rodney Lora and Grassfield's Morgan Graham both sit at VA #2 all-time in their respective throws.

Rodney Lora, a multi-sport star at Woodberry, threw 63-2 indoors to rank himself 7th all-time but outdoors he has pushed his personal best to 66-1. That mark ranks second all-time behind Bayside's Dan Krueger who launched a 68-5.5 throw back in 1978. That state record is the oldest on the books and just one of three records that predates the year 2001 (1984 - 300mH, 1992 - HJ).

Though athletes like Madison Whyte are dominating the sport right now and potentially setting multiple state records, if Lora is to take down the oldest state record on the books... he would be making quite the argument for being named athlete of the year.

Over in the discus ring though, Grassfield's Morgan Graham might have something to say and is quickly making the argument she should be named the thrower of the year over Lora. Currently she is doing what he is not, leading the state in both throwing events.

Graham is currently VA #1 in the shot with her 41-9 season best and VA #2 all-time in the discus with her 161-5 season best. She is just two inches shy of the state record set by Natalie Baird back in 2008.

Graham is already a two-time state champion and this next week will be trying to double that count.

We know the throws get overlooked sometimes but what these two athletes are doing is really special. If you have the chance, go the distance and make your way to the throws field to watch history happen, you won't regret it.
