Pre-Meet Flashback: State Champs Push Each Other To The Line

In one of the most memorable big invitational finishes in recent years, future state champions Matt Duvall and Nathan Moore pushed each other to the line at Centerville Saturday Night Lights' 2019 edition.

Entering the encounter, Duvall had run the table by picking up early season victories at his home invite, Tiffin and Galion while Moore's record was also unblemished to that point with triumphs at Claymont, Ashland and Boardman

The highly anticipated showdown between national elites in the featured Championship Division contest would not disappoint.

Sharing virtually the entire 5-kilometer trek side-by-side, in 15:10.7 Duvall, a senior at the time, emerged victorious with Moore, then a junior, occupying the runner-up position in 15:11.3

From there, Duvall would go on to capture state meet gold later that season with Moore earning his own OHSAA Division I individual honor the next year.

Collegiately, Duvall took his talents to Lexington to suit up for the University of Kentucky and by way of Walsh University, Moore now represents the Lynchburg-based Liberty University Flames
