Varsity race assignments are posted below for the 2023 MileStat.com XC Invitational to be held Saturday, October 14th at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. The assignments list can also be viewable in spreadsheet format here.
We have a record number of teams registered for this year's meet cresting over 200 schools and 5,000 runners registered, so it is critical that meet management spreads the field and numbers out as much as possible between the two sessions.
The elite division includes roughly the top 35 ranked teams entered in the meet. The emerging elite division includes the next 20 ranked teams plus teams either with legitimate conflicts such as homecoming festivities that evening or keeping a team for one gender in the same session with their other gender team qualified by merit into the morning session elite races.
The remaining 60-80 varsity teams for each gender then were placed in the afternoon session and separated by school size into large schools and small schools varsity divisions.
Note that teams who did not enter full squads meaning less than 5 runners per gender are not listed in the below race assignments for teams. Individuals with times of sub 17 for boys and sub 20 for girls may run in the elite race. Individuals with times between 17:01-18:30 for boys and 20:01-21:30 for girls may run in emerging elite.
If your team was placed in emerging elite or the afternoon session, but have an elite individual that would like to run up in the top competitive elite races, they can and simply just need to wear their bib which has an embedded chip at the starting line for their race. No declaration needed. There will be several open starting boxes for individuals on both ends of the starting line in all races.
Individual athletes on teams with less than 5 runners entered per gender may also run in the afternoon varsity races depending on their school size (1A-3A schools or enrollment under 1000 in small schools, 4A-6A schools or enrollment in large schools).
If you have runners that run over 25 minutes for boys and over 30 minutes for girls, please place them in the JV races for your session instead of running in any varsity as this holds the meet up. There is a reason why we start races every 25 minutes after a varsity boys race starts and every 30 minutes varsity girls race starts, while we put the JV races at the end of each session.
You may run up to 10 runners in every varsity race and unlimited runners in the JV races. No declaration needed who is running varsity or JV for your squad.
