Some of AA\'s best gather at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, VA -- The 2002 Liberty Invitational gathered many of the top teams and individuals in AA in the Lynchburg area as they gathered at Liberty University.

The Amherst County\'s sprinters were impressive as they ran away with a few victories. Jenea Brown destroyed the competition in the girls\' 100 and 200 meter dash with blazing clockings of 12.25 and 24.94 respectively. The Amherst girls also won the 4x100 and 4x200 with some very quick times of 50.04 and 1:48.21 respectively. Brian McPherson, also clocked an impressive time of 11.07 to win the boys\' 100 meter dash. Imani Moorman of Amherst continues to show why she is one of the best triple jumpers in the state as she won the event with a jump of 39-2.50. She also won the high jump at 5-0.

Jefferson Forest did well at what it does best in, the distance events. Brian Roberts was a double winner as he won the boys\' 1600 (4:43) and 800 (2:05) meter races. Shannon Saunders won the girls\' 1600 meter race in a time of 5:20, and Cate Jackson finished second in the 800 (2:26). The girls\' 4x800 meter relay was also victorious (10:25).

However, it was the Cave Spring girls who impressed the most. Ashley Reyer was a double winner in the hurdles with wins in the 100 (15.85) and 300 meter hurdles (49.27) and finished second in the long jump as well (17-1). Also a double winner for the Lady Knights was Jennifer Wade as she won the 400 meter dash (1:03.12) and pole vault (9-6). The Cave Spring distance group also performed very well. Senior Bridget Tainer won the 3200 meter run in a time of 11:53 and fellow senior Cassie Valentine won the 800 in 2:26.37.

The girls\' throws saw two of AA\'s best competing as William Fleming\'s Tierra Hubbard won the shot put (38-0.75) and Spotswood\'s Jennifer Showker won the discus (126-0). The boys saw also the two of the top throwers in AA as Bryant Garrett of Staunton won the shot put (50-9.25) and Kevin Brown of Amherst won the discus (143-4).

The William Fleming boys dominated the relays as they won the 4x100 (43.23), 4x200 (1:41.02), and 4x400 (3:39.10). They were also strong in the sprints and jumps. Calvin Bannister won both the 200 meter dash (22.64) and long jump (22-3.75). Ryan McCoy, currently the top triple jumper in AA, won at his specialty with a leap of 45-3.50.
