Fairfax County: The New Center of Relay Speed?

Could there be a new center for speed in Virginia? One quick look at the current state leaderboard on the boys' side makes us believe Northern Virginia and more specifically, Fairfax County is the place to be for fast relay times. Currently leading the state are West Springfield in the 4x1 (41.62), Hayfield in the 4x4 (3:16.92), and Lake Braddock in the 4x8 (7:52.41).

The last time we saw something like this was in 2017 when Western Branch led the state in the 4x1 and 4x8 and Phoebus led in the 4x4. This is so rare that even when T.C. Williams had the Lyles brothers and dominated the 4x1 and 4x4 for three years there wasn't the trifecta.

You'd have to go back over a decade to 2012 to find three teams from the same county as state leaders and that was when Annandale (4x1) and Westfield (4x4 & 4x8) led the state, also three Fairfax schools.

Though we are only halfway through the outdoor season and there are some teams, we're looking at you Oscar Smith, who have yet to run their full "A" squad this is still quite impressive.
